Project Engineer

Location: El Paso, Texas

Job Type: Full Time

Pay: $60,000–$80,000 per year

Position Summary

The Project Engineer provides document administration and project-coordination support throughout all phases of assigned construction projects. This position manages critical project records and assists the Project Manager, Superintendent, subcontractors, vendors, design professionals, and other project participants.

The Project Engineer is responsible for helping ensure that project documents are accurate, complete, organized, distributed promptly, and stored according to ECOM procedures. The position supports project delivery through effective communication, proactive planning, problem-solving, and careful attention to deadlines.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in multi-family construction.

Primary Responsibilities

Project Document Administration

  • Maintain document control for project plans, specifications, contracts, correspondence, and project files.
  • Store and organize project documents in Viewpoint and Procore according to ECOM’s document-management procedures.
  • Create, track, distribute, and maintain requests for information throughout the project.
  • Notify the Project Manager when an RFI may affect project cost and help consolidate related costs into an owner change.
  • Request, assemble, review, log, track, and distribute subcontractor and architect submittals.
  • Help ensure that submittals are complete, accurate, organized, and approved in time to prevent project delays.
  • Log and distribute architect’s supplemental instructions and notify the Project Manager of associated cost impacts.
  • Maintain current as-built drawings by recording changes resulting from RFIs, ASIs, approved proposal requests, and field conditions.
  • Log accident reports and OSHA reports in Procore.
  • Collect and monitor turnover documents, including certificates of substantial completion and certificates of occupancy.

Subcontract and Contract Administration

  • Draft subcontractor scopes of work for review and approval by the Project Manager.
  • Track the execution of subcontracts and prepare subcontract addenda when required.
  • Assist the Project Manager with gathering pricing and assembling, logging, distributing, and tracking subcontractor change orders.
  • Review and understand ECOM’s contractual obligations to the project owner.
  • Assist with creating, tracking, and logging owner proposals and change orders.

Closeout Documentation

  • Create and maintain a project closeout checklist from the beginning of the project through completion.
  • Track required closeout items and record when each item is received.
  • Gather, organize, and deliver project closeout documentation in the required format.
  • Upload completed closeout documentation to Viewpoint.
  • Coordinate operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, training documentation, as-built drawings, attic stock, testing and balancing reports, final waste-management plans, and other required closeout materials.

Scheduling and Planning

  • Coordinate with the Project Manager and Superintendent to schedule submittals according to production needs and material lead times.
  • Monitor submittal deadlines to help prevent project delays.
  • Assist with entering and updating project schedules in Microsoft Project under the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Identify potential document, procurement, or coordination issues and communicate them promptly to the appropriate team members.

Meetings and Communication

  • Prepare agendas and supporting documents for owner, architect, contractor, progress, and pay-application meetings.
  • Attend meetings, take accurate notes, prepare meeting minutes, and distribute them promptly.
  • Save meeting minutes and supporting records in Procore.
  • Prepare agendas and meeting minutes for weekly project-team meetings.
  • Help the project team review project buyout, subcontracts, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
  • Represent ECOM professionally in communications, meetings, and presentations.

Problem-Solving and Team Support

  • Help resolve subcontractor, vendor, document-control, and compliance issues within the Project Engineer’s area of responsibility.
  • Immediately report unresolved matters or issues outside the position’s authority to the Project Manager.
  • Report site conflicts to the Superintendent.
  • Provide administrative and project support to senior management and multiple Project Managers when required.
  • Respond promptly to company marketing and estimating requests, including requests for qualifications, proposals, interviews, résumé updates, and content review.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, assignments, and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to follow established processes and procedures.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project.
  • Experience with Viewpoint and Procore is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, architects, owners, and other business associates.
  • Ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and escalate unresolved issues appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain integrity and professionalism in all business dealings.

Working Conditions

  • Airline and automobile travel may be required.
  • The position may require sitting for extended periods.
  • Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, telephone, smartphone, and other business equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
